This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a Title I middle school located in North Las Vegas, NV. All of the students at this school receive free or reduced-price lunch. My average class size is between 35-40 students. My students are from a low-income, or an under-served area. They strive to work against this adversity. The background that my students have requires a warm learning environment to counteract any negative they may face. They work well in hands-on settings involving lots of group work. My students are not on grade level and this year will be spent helping them get to that level.
My Project
As we continue to tackle this school year, one thing has become apparent and that is my students are struggling to focus. Their young bodies no longer get to release as much energy as before due to the health and safety guidelines we all must follow while in school. Because of this, they lack the energy and focus needed while learning. This has prompted me to help refuel them by offering a midday snack. The other items on this list are essential for my 8th graders. The feminine hygiene products, chapstick, and lotion will work to further help provide them with what they need to focus on learning.
Studies have shown that food is important for the brain and body.
