My Students

My students are sweet and diverse. Unlike the other middle school in our district, our kids come mostly from poverty. As teachers here, we know that we must provide the majority of the supplies we require and use for our lessons. Many of my kids will eat their only meal of the day here (free lunch/ teacher-funded pantries).

I am a second-year teacher, and I want to change the stigma around our school.

I want my kids to see their value because it's incredible!

My Project

I am one of a few teachers at my school that stocks a food pantry in their classroom, as many of our students go without enough food outside of school. I selected healthy snacks (Nature Valley granola bars) because they are filling and easy to eat during class. Asking my sweet students to focus in my English class over the groans from their stomachs is unfair and unethical. The granola bars will stay in my food pantry cupboard and will remain available to any student who need them. This will be my second year as a teacher and my second year with this pantry- these donations make that possible and I am incredibly grateful!
