Help me give my students Anderson's Peanut butter filled pretzels, Nature Valley and Nutri-grain bars are just some of the sweet and salty snacks in my cart to provide my students with a quick boast throughout their day!
Engaging students in everyday lessons can be a challenge, especially when they are hungry. My students are wonderful kids but lose focus easily when they go too long without a bite to eat. I am a fourth-grade teacher. Our school is on the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana. Our Title I School provides breakfast and lunch to every student for free. Having a schedule and predictable meals can relief stress for my students so they can put more of their attention and focus into their curriculum.
According to Community Health Magazine “Eating five to seven times per day in a grazing manner with a good blend of protein, healthy carbohydrates, healthy fats, and lots of water is the best method to keep the brain and muscles fueled, the metabolism moving, and blood sugar levels constant.
These outcomes are keys to maintaining optimum energy and body fat levels.” (Murray, Michael 2014) Eating a snack throughout the school day will alter the moods of my students and help to maintain their focus. A lot of students participate in sports and other after-school activities, which on an empty stomach will also decrease performance in those areas.
My Project
I love waking up in the morning knowing that 20 children are depending on me to show up to work. I love sitting at my desk watching each student trickle into the classroom and slowly making their way toward me to show me something cool they got yesterday or to tell me what they did last night. I love that feeling when I look up from my desk and every student is silently doing their work. I love that at the end of each day, I am rewarded with a job well done, in 20 free hugs.
My project for snacks (Anderson's Peanut butter filled pretzels, Nature Valley and Nutri-grain bars, etc.) will lead to a more engaging classroom.
Being a teacher is the most rewarding job. A teacher helps a child explore the world they live in, through a variety of subject matters. A teacher shows a child how to be loving, caring, and the true meaning of happiness. A teacher is a positive role model and mentor. A teacher lets every child know that he or she can do anything they set their minds to!
