This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach bilingual pre-k students in an industrial suburb near Houston, Texas. My students have many challenges including financial uncertainty. However, they are eager to come to school to learn and play. It is important for me to get them the resources they need to be the best learners they can be. I know that with a little support, my students will thrive.
Our young pre-k students have an early lunch and need a small snack in the afternoon to give them energy to keep learning.
During our snack time, I keep my students learning and practicing math skills. For example, we count the number of students to determine how many snacks we need. We look at the shape of our snacks and when appropriate, the students sort and count their individual snacks. I have requested some of my students' favorite treats so I am sure even my fussy eaters will have something to eat.
We have previously asked the parents to provide a snack for the entire class numerous times throughout the school year. This school year, I am requesting snacks to reduce the financial stress on the families.
