Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have a lot of enthusiasm and love being active. I work with over 500 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. They come from low income families and are second language learners. They are from the inner city and their spirit for learning is one of their strengths. Our school is an older brick building that lacks a gymnasium so most of our physical education classes depend on the weather. When we are indoors we do Health lessons too.
My Project
My students need food group posters, bean bags and bingo to reinforce their nutrition lessons. It will help my primary grade students to have visuals to learn the myplate food groups. It will make learning engaging and hands on as well. I can create games with the beanbags and use bingo too for active lessons. I can also use it with my older students to reemphasize healthy eating habits. These materials are important for my students to build a strong knowledge of a balanced diet. It will help to enhance my health curriculum by providing manipulatives for my unit on nutrition.
