Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The Food for Thought Project will help 180 plus students get the boost of energy and fuel they need to endure and pass the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (F.A.S.T.) mandated by the state.

Food for Thought's main goal is to encourage, motivate, and promote stamina for students of 10th grade during their state test through nourishment and special treats.

For this important test, students are given an extended period of time to complete the test. Many of my students will dedicate close to six hours to complete, review, and submit their test. Giving them a little goodie bag with nutritious and delectable snacks will encourage them to see the test in a positive light, motivating them to do well. It will also promote stamina to keep them awake and energetic throughout the test.

Homestead Senior High School is considered a Title-1 school as 92% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. The economically disadvantaged population is in great need because in some cases the school lunch will be their only meal of the day. The Food for Thought project will allow me to help by giving them an extra snack and treating them to something special. In turn, that special feeling will give them incentive to do great on their test.
