Food for Thought

Help me give my students a food pantry filled with bins of food for when they come to school hungry.

My Students

I teach in a Title I-funded, public elementary school with about 500 students. My students come from very low income communities. Many students are eager to learn and interact daily at school; however, COVID-19 has put a stop to our engagement with students. It is my hope that through DonorsChoose, we can offer as much personal attention to each child's needs as possible.

This will be the first time some of my tiger cubs will be in a classroom environment and they are excited to come back!

My students are new learners and full of potential, but the poverty level is high with 100% of our population qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch.

Personally, I take time to get to know each child in my classroom as a whole person. My goal throughout the year is to understand their academic strengths and weaknesses as well as their character strengths and weaknesses. I love being their friend, teacher, and hopefully a role model.

My Project

With this project we hope to provide students with a chance to have food options in school when hungry and to take home when they are in need. Many times we have students who come to school hungry and are picky eaters.

In order for them to stay focused we would like to provide students with a chance to have choices of different foods to eat in school and to take home.

Being able to provide a food pantry to service over 40 students will help teachers to know that when their students go home, they will have food to get them through the night.
