I have a wonderful group of spirited teenagers, who love discussion and sharing their ideas. They are highly energetic and inquisitive about the world around them.
Our rural Maine high school strives to push our students to think outside of our small town, and to become worldly in their endeavors.
In English, we read copious amounts of literature, laugh, and learn together. We talk about being good consumers of the written word and being a good human first and foremost.
It is nearly impossible to equal the playing field all the time. However, I am asked daily if I have any food or snacks and I feel as though this is somewhere I can actually help. Some students forget to eat, run out of time, or just don't have the resources to have a healthy start to the day. We study Maslow's Heirarchy and we practice seeing to our own personal needs to enhance our learning.
I try to feed those who need to eat, but I can't keep up with the food demands of my classes.
This project would help me set up a pantry for my students and keep their stomachs fed, so their minds can learn.
