Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are as unique and diverse as the neighborhoods and homes they come from. They are energetic, inquisitive, and eager to learn new things every day!
My school is a large Title I school in North Carolina.
Many students receive free lunch, and all students receive free breakfast. My students love coming to school and are so excited to learn, share in our classroom community, and work toward meeting their learning goals. We are a diverse school and are in the process of becoming a Dual-Language school next year!
My Project
My students need healthy snacks to ensure that their bodies and brains have the nutrition needed to reach their highest potential at school. Childhood hunger is a very real reality for many of the students in our school. All of our students qualify for free breakfast, and the majority qualifies for free or reduced lunch.
Having access to healthy snacks is proven to improve academic achievement.
Studies show that students who do not have regular access to healthy foods do not perform as well as students who have proper nutrition. By having healthy snacks like dried fruit bars, baked crackers, and cereal bars available in our classroom, I can ensure that students who don't have a snack from my home still have the opportunity to feed their minds and fuel their learning each and every day.
