Sensory play is food for the brain! Stimulating my student's senses sends signals to their brains that help strengthen neural pathways important for all types of learning.
My elementary special education classroom is filled with lots of hugs and giggles.
We love to celebrate gains and are a team when it comes to providing the best education for our classmates. We are in rural Oklahoma in a district that has a high poverty rate. Our school may be small but the students here have the biggest hearts and deserve the very best! I believe that all children can learn and feel that a sensory area is vital in a special education classroom. As a first year teacher I do not have many supplies in my classroom and would love for this to be funded for my student's benefit!
My Project
We need a sensory table and fun sense stimulating materials including alphabet dough stampers and molding dough, sand mold sets, and fine motor tools so that they can be actively learning with their senses!
These sensory items will be used in an array of ways both inside and outside of our classroom. We will be able to explore and appeal to all of our senses. The table will allow for us to add different sensory materials at different times so that the sensory area in our classroom is always appealing to the students. Getting these basic materials to get us started will be a wonderful way to start sensory learning in the classroom. This project will help my students focus, listen, learn, and grow in more ways than imaginable!
My students are so deserving.
Coming from a rural high poverty area they have not had the opportunity to be exposed to many sensory learning environments. Having a sensory area in the classroom will allow them to learn through play and exploration. My students come into our classroom with an eagerness to make gains in their education. Regardless of their challenges, they display the most remarkable perseverance to learn!
