My Students

I teach KINDERGARTEN at a very large, rural public school. 48% of our school is economically disadvantaged. All of our students receive free breakfast and free lunch. My kiddos love to learn. They are creative, thoughtful, and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging activities. They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically.

My students come from all different types of backgrounds, some with regular exposure, which enhances their background knowledge, others with very little outside the classroom experience.

Truly, they are my inspiration to be the best teacher I can be!

My Project

Each day, the kids eat breakfast at home or take advantage of our breakfast program here at school. Breakfast is at 8:15 am, lunch is from 10:50 - 11:20! Our day ends at 3:15. By mid-afternoon, my little 5 and 6-year-old kindergarten kiddos are hungry!! Our afternoon food break can help my students re-energize and stay focused to pound in all our learning! These will last us ALL year!

Curbing students’ hunger will help them continue to focus on their work in class!

There is such strong rigor in today’s world to meet every deadline and hit every concept. We expect our students to be focused and working all day. However, they need brain fuel! By meeting students' physical needs for food, we can help them turn their focus back to their learning in the classroom.
