My Students
I teach fifth graders social studies and science. My classes are diverse! They consists of thriving minds, full of questions and theories! When presented with a challenge, my students strive to meet it. What I love most about my students is when new projects are introduced, their interest is piqued, and they become excited learners, as well as I! "I'm still learning through them!" Their eagerness, their drive, and their motivation is contagious. Their minds are like sponges, and I want to give them the knowledge they so want.
My Project
Students in grades k-5 will take part in cooking classes. They will take part in prepping meals, ordering ingredients, and cutting things like carrots, spinach, broccoli, fruits, and much more. Because cooking will occur more than once a day, we need to store the fresh vegetables in a refrigerator for later use. The purpose is to educate/expose our students in low income areas to a healthier way of eating. For example, we have prepared meals with brown rice, and whole grain pasta and the kids loved the finished product. We want to do this type of cooking more often, but with no place to store ingredients it becomes more challenging.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
