This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My kindergartners face challenges in life, but they are always energetic, enthusiastic, and positive about their academic success. Our school faces the same issues as other low socioeconomic areas, but we are a gold mine in that the teaching staff is committed to ensuring our students get their basic needs met in order to focus on their academic and social growth. This is my students' first experience in school and they should be able to grow without worry or hunger.

My Project

My little students come primarily from low-income working class homes where sometimes they come to school hungry and unprepared for school. We start school at 7:45 am and lunch isn't until 10:55 am. This is quite a long stretch for empty little tummies.

I plan to use the storage boxes and different snacks to create a snack food bank in our class that will ensure that my kindergartners will be able to focus on instruction and new learning concepts without being distracted by hunger.

Healthy snacks such as the requested crackers and granola bars will go a long way in assuring that my students can be successful in their various academic studies in the classroom.
