Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

I am the student support coach at our school this year. It is a very rewarding job but at times can also be very challenging. I work in an inner-city Chattanooga school. We serve students from housing developments and homeless shelters. Many students come to school with severe emotional trauma and need so much support.

Something simple we can offer is food so they are not going to class hungry each day.

Sometimes the only place they eat or have access to food is at school. We also make sure to have snacks or other food items to offer them.
