Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a science teacher, I require the ability to store refrigerated samples for various educational activities. This includes preserving biological specimens, extracts, and solutions that require controlled temperatures for experiments and observations related to the project.

A primary function is to provide safe storage for perishable foods used in our "Food as Medicine/Farm to Fork Identification Project." This project involves handling and demonstrating the use of local and cultural plants, herbs, fruits, and vegetables.

Refrigeration is crucial for maintaining the freshness and integrity of these ingredients before, during, and after demonstrations, preventing spoilage and mitigating the risk of foodborne illness.

The refrigerator will enable students to engage in hands-on learning experiences, such as storing various types of fresh produce to study their relationship to health and the environment. It will also support the safe preparation and sharing of cultural food options, allowing students to learn about diverse culinary traditions with the guidance of industry professionals.

It's inspiring that my aspiring healthcare professionals are keen to study holistic and medicinal practices rooted in their ethnicities and cultures. This path not only enriches their understanding of health but also fosters culturally sensitive care. Exploring traditions like TCM, Ayurveda, Indigenous healing, African traditional medicine, and Latin American practices can provide valuable insights. Understanding the scientific basis of these practices can further empower these future doctors and scientists.
