My Students

My students come from very diverse backgrounds and attend a school that focuses on project-based learning. As such, they are accustomed to working on collaborative projects and taking deep dives into several areas of our curriculum, including literature.

My students are at a dynamic age; they inquisitively view the world through lenses that are both curious and magical.

As their teacher, I am constantly exploring new ways to keep them enthusiastically engaged in all that we do. They always bring a lot to the table and never cease to amaze me.

My Project

The Mayan trail project includes materials and resources that focus on new discoveries of the Mayan people. The information provided is far different than what I learned about this ancient civilization 25 years ago! Before Columbus is young readers adaptation of Charles Mann's seminal work 1491, which has since changes the face of Mesoamerican archeology. I'm also requesting a fictional series, Jaguar Stones, which is an exciting avenue for learning even more about Mayan culture and history.

The materials in this project will do more than serve as resources; indeed they will create new lenses from which my students will view Mayan culture and history.

What's more, my students will learn that Mayan culture persists, and that their story is an important piece of our shared human saga.
