This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My kindergarteners are learning to read and write in two languages as part of our dual language curriculum. They are learning a letter a week in each language, and they love making language connections.
Having highly engaging materials that could be used whole class, small groups and eventually, independently is my goal.
The pocket chart all about the letter of the week will help students be excited about learning the letter of the week, its sound, and much more. The folders will be for students to keep their poem of the week, letter of the week and number of the day in one place. The word wall will help students see and read our sight words in Spanish and English. The sight words books will be used for extra practice in the classroom and as homework.
Last, the English phonic cards will help students touch each letter as they sound it out, then blending those sounds to read words. This skill is essential when starting to read books independently and writing.
These materials will enhance our English literacy part of our day.
