Focusing on Innovative Technology in Science Through STEM/STEAM
Help me give my students the interactive technology experience to meet the needs of my 21st Century learners. The Dell laptops will allow my students to have consistent access to innovative technology to foster STEM/STEAM.
My school has a large multilingual population. I teach science to 6th grade students ranging levels from gifted, advanced, average, ESOL, and ESE with learning disabilities. My students regardless of their language get very engaged when we use technology in the classroom. No matter their language barriers or academic levels the technology connects us all.
My students look forward to BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) days since it helps to keep us "connected." Unfortunately, most of them do not have a device to bring.
I usually pair them up in small groups to share the devices. I was also devastated to learn that my desktop computers had been removed from my classroom over the summer. Many of my ESOL students speak very little English, however, through technology programs applications that easily translate text into their language. In addition, all of my students are truly engaged and enjoy learning through technology. I am working hard to incorporate technology through computer science and support the national effort to develop my 21st century learners.
My Project
The four Dell laptops will allow my students to effectively use technology in our science classroom. Students will have access to use the device during presentations and implementation of other science-based computer application/innovation programs. The students will help with visual aids and translation for the majority of my students. The students will stay connected through interactive computer use.
Opportunities for explorations through science applications, virtual labs, and research will be consistent to support my 21st century learner.
Students that do not have a device can now utilize through rotation the four Dell laptops in lieu of sharing or observing. These devices will give the students more opportunities for hands on interaction connecting science, technology, engineering, and math (STEAM/STEM).
