Our classroom consist of students with low-incidence disabilities with a variety of intellectual, physical, and sensory impairments. They work on functional and vocational task in the classroom to become as independent as possible after high school. My students make up a very unique classroom community. My students work very hard and put their heart into everything that they do.
We practice interviewing skills, job applications, cooking, cleaning, money, time, and functional writing skills.
These skills will prepare them to be as independent as they can post-high school.
My secondary life skill students will use each of these products when learning to read recipes, prepare a meal as part of independent living goals. Students will learn to read a recipe and choose which appliance they will need to complete the task. The students will be able to use the food processor to create salsas and chop vegetables. The mixer will be used to mix cookies, puddings, and cake mixes. The toaster oven will be used for cooking cookies, cakes, biscuits, and grilled cheese sandwiches as well as other recipes. The students can use the 4-slice toaster when preparing their own toast, prepared food items.
