Preschoolers, ages 3-5, are inquisitive, energetic, and love to explore their environments. Every student in my classroom has a developmental disability. Preschoolers are learning to sit and engage in their environment appropriately, building many foundational skills, which can be very difficult with the busyness and movements of their peers. A distracting environment can be even more difficult to ignore for children who have certain developmental disabilities.
The introduction of a classroom divider will increase each of my preschool student’s ability to focus more effectively on the task at hand.
Some of my preschoolers benefit from additional privacy to concentrate on tasks. Room dividers act as physical barriers, offering both visual and auditory privacy. This helps reduce external distractions, allowing my students to engage more fully in their activities and promoting a sense of security in the learning environment.
Other benefits for students are that room dividers offer adaptability, allowing children to get targeted interventions and individual instruction in smaller settings as many of my preschool students receive focused instruction, assessments, and therapies while in the classroom. A room divider will help to accommodate different activities with students, transitions, or specific learning goals, along with personalized learning spaces for students who benefit from quieter, more secluded areas for focused activities.
