Help me give my students a structured classroom with limited distractions. We have a lot of students and adults moving around the classroom at all times. These dividers will help to create sectioned work spaces to limit distractions.
The students in our class have a variety of intellectual disabilities. We have 8 students in the special education classroom that qualify for 1:1 adult support for all day. They spend recess and lunch with their peers with their adult supports. I serve 3 other special education students that work 1:1 with an educational assistant and learn within the general education classroom.
In this class we celebrate the unique and diverse community we are blessed teach.
Our classroom is set up as a structured classroom using research based techniques for teaching students with autism. We use a lot of pictures around the room, visual timers to set concrete expectations, color coding to foster independence, and 15 minute rotations to keep the students attention as best we can. Our students learn with a lot of hands on materials and I add songs into learning as much as I can. Each student has their own individual learning goals. The stations are set up to teach each student based on each of their needs.
My Project
The classroom dividers I am requesting for my students helps to create a learning environment that limits distractions. The students in my class get distracted very easily and to help them learn most effectively in each station these dividers will encourage them to look stay on task.
With 8 special needs students and 8 educational assistants in the room at all times, it can get busy!
Each student has their own personalized positive behavior system in which they earn a break with their favorite toy or activity after they work. These breaks can be happening when other students are still working. These dividers can be moved around the room to make sure the working students can continue to focus.
