This is my second year as a teacher in a large, urban elementary school. Working with students that come from low-income homes has its challenges. However, I wouldn't want to work anywhere else! In my Title I school in Virginia, 100% of our students receive free lunch and breakfast and 87% of the student body is a minority group. They come from some tough backgrounds but still continue to work hard and do all that they can to learn. I truly love what I do and I'm grateful to have such a great community of learners in my class and in our school!
DonorsChoose.org has helped bring supplies to our classroom that we couldn't have any other way.
I want my students to know that they are important. They deserve the best materials. No matter what.
My students, like many children, have a difficult time focusing on their work when there are other noises nearby. The earmuffs are a kind of isolation headphones that help students focus on their own work. I've found that they are also very helpful for students with anger management issues. It allows students a chance to cool down and keep working.
While testing isn't a favorite part of the school day, presentation boards allow students to focus and finish their tests easier.
The presentation boards are like giant blinders so that the students can focus on their own work and not worry about anyone else.
