Focused and Calm: Help Immigrant Students Stay on Track
Help me give my students fidget toys, pencil grips, stickers and assorted balls to stay focused and calm in class.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My amazing high school students are all recent immigrants who are learning English as their second, third or even fourth language. My students are from more than 20 countries and speak more than 6 different languages.
Due to Boston's skyrocketing costs of living, many of my students are living in shelters, group homes or other transitional housing, and some students struggle to focus with so much uncertainty and transition in their home lives.
According to NBC, Boston is the third most expensive place to live in the United States. With no end in sight to the housing crisis, it is vital that I make my classroom and curriculum welcoming and trauma responsive for all my students.
My Project
This project includes fidgets and stress toys for our class and to take home. We are the only high school in Boston that exclusively serves recent immigrants. Our immigrant teens have a the normal array of teen stressors (homework, dating, friend drama, etc.) as well as stressors specific to their immigrant experience (learning a new language, adjusting to a new family provider, missing their home countries/cultures).
Please help me allow students to stay focused in and out of school with this donation of fidget toys, pencil grips, stickers and assorted balls.
Students will also bring and keep the stress toys so that they can use them during other classes as well as at home or on the train.
