Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am writing to ask for help with my project, Focus with Fernandez. Many of the students I work with have to fight daily to stay away from street gangs and violence. I am seeking to assist them to become engaged in the community through service opportunities, offering homework assistance, as well as providing a place of safety for so many of our students during school in my classroom as well as after school. We at BHS have witnessed firsthand the devastating effects that street gang involvement and violence can have on our youth and the broader community. It is imperative that we take proactive measures to guide our students toward positive life choices and away from harmful influences, by creating a safe space to learn and help nurture and foster positive community building, and academic success.
The requested items would serve as a crucial intervention, offering education, and support for our underprivileged students.
These items will help me foster character development, conflict resolution, and life skills, to empower our youth better to make informed decisions and find constructive outlets for their energy and creativity.
Moreover, incorporating the use of sensory and social-emotional activities within the classroom can provide students with a sense of belonging and purpose, making it less likely for them to seek acceptance in street groups. Evidence across the country demonstrates significant increases in students’ success in high school and beyond.
I genuinely believe that our community has the potential to foster a generation of empowered individuals who choose paths of peace and productivity. The requested items are not just an investment in our youth but in the future of our community as a whole.
