My students need a microscope to view cells and atomic structure models to understand bonding. We do play games where they write chemical formulas, etc. on individual whiteboards and they are totally engaged!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
All of my students were affected by Hurricane Harvey. Many of my students lost everything. I have had the pleasure of teaching these students once in Jr High and now I teach them at the high school level. My students need hands on experiences to assist them in learning and being successful in life. The students know that I'm on their side and that we will make the most out of each and every day. I want for my students to gain knowledge in Science due to better paying STEM Jobs because my students deserve this opportunity! We are all changed by this experience we lived through.
My Project
A microscope and a variety of slides will aid students exploration of structure and function of many organelles. Students will be engaged in making agar (which will need to be refrigerated) for collecting bacteria samples and this opens all of our eyes! Science World can be used as a resource that keeps students' interest of current real world interactions. Another resource, Twig lessons will impact our knowledge and interest from the biosphere to atoms.
Atomic structure models will assist students in grasping a multitude of concepts like atoms, ions, isotopes, and chemical properties.
Whiteboards will be used by the students for me to see what the student is thinking while writing or drawing structures. These hands on activities ensure to increase in students' knowledge in daily chemical interactions. All of these items will make a huge difference in connecting Science to my students' lives.
