Focus on Fitness

My Students

Did you have a great physical education class in elementary school? Do you remember? Well, I want my students to remember their elementary physical education classes as exciting, effective and engaging experiences. Please help make this dream come true for me and my students!

The campus is more than 50% economically disadvantaged with a predominantly minority demographic.

I have excellent, hard-working students who give their best in physical education. We are a neighborhood campus with very supportive, involved parents. The campus houses more than 850 elementary students.

My Project

The new foam balls and soccer balls will be used to teach skills related to kicking, catching, and throwing. These balls will actually bounce and react the way that PE equipment should! I am also requesting items related to nutrition ("my plate" DVD and wall chart) which is embedded in physical education at my campus. Movement and diet go hand in hand to create a healthy and fit lifestyle. The most innovative request of all may be for the Jumbo Speed Stack cups. These will be used with students to develop eye-hand coordination while participating in relays that will increase cardiovascular capacity.

Although the majority of items in physical education are consumables that must be replaced on a regular basis, it is very challenging for physical education teachers to find funds to replace those items.

This grant provides the possibility of such an opportunity! Please help us keep the "Focus on Fitness!"
