Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As you can imagine, supporting 7th grade students in their ability to focus on their work can be a challenge. In our social studies class, we use our devices to watch educational videos, allow students to listen to more complex news articles, and work to provide ways for all students, regardless of their reading abilty, to access the important material to expand their world view and think crtitically.
The goal of the project will be to provide a classroom set of headphones so that students can access the auditory material from their devices as well as give students a quiet and peaceful classroom to work in.
Many students struggle with reading the required material at grade level and these headphones, along with news articles that have closed captioning, will level the playing field, ensuring that all students are able to access the material at their own reading level.
Our district is special. Our school is incredibly diverse with students from over 10 countries, every race, and all economic classes. This makes our social studies class an extra special environment with amazing conversations. By providing students with these headphones, you will be ensuring that all students will be able to access their education at their level. When students are able to gain this knowledge in a peaceful and judgement free way, they are more likely to then engage in the important classroom conversations that will help them understand their world, the world of their peers, and the world around them.
