This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am the school counselor at PES. My students show up to school everyday excited to learn and excited to be in person. They do this despite all the challenges that they face and their constant struggles. They love their teachers and walk through our doors with smiles on their faces.

My Project

Since the start of the pandemic, I have noticed an increase in student anxiety and trouble focusing. These items will help my students focus more on their work instead of worrying or stressing out.

Fidget toys are often used to provide sensory input in a less distracting way.

They can help improve concentration and attention to tasks by allowing the brain to filter out the extra sensory information (e.g. listening to a lesson in the classroom, paying attention to a book during circle time), while also helping to reduce anxiety and stress.

Students can squeeze the sensory/stress balls, kick the chair bands, put the velcro under their desk so they can rub it, and stretch the stretchy string toy. All different ways to get movement into their day or take their mind off of stress.
