Help me give my students fidgets to assist them with their learning! The bulk of my students struggle with keeping themselves on task and these fidgets are great for them to keep their hands busy while they listen.
At the Title I school I teach at, there are over 40 different languages spoken and many of my students are not from the United States. My goal is to empower my students through language and academic excellence. My mission is to foster determination, respect, diversity, and inclusion. Since my students come from homes where a language other than English is spoken, they have limited English proficiency. My students are in the ESOL program, and since the beginning of the school year I have noticed some regression of their language language skills since the emergency school closures due to COVID-19.
For this upcoming school year, I would like to be able to address their unique needs in order for them to be more successful learning the English language.
My Project
My school district is back to in person learning, and I noticed my students are antsy then ever. My ESOL students are wiggly and can't sit still.
Due to COVID restrictions they have to sit at their individual desk all day, so these calming fidgets will help them keep their focus on school.
The water color timers will be exciting for my students to see how much time we have to complete a task. They will be mesmerized by seeing the two colors mix and they will help provide them with a focus.
The squishy calming stress balls will help students put forth their energy by letting out some frustrations from their hands by playing with a quiet toy that will help reduce nervousness.
My hope is that each child will have have their own individual fidgets that can be stored in their desks. They will be able to utilize them when they feel anxious, nervous, worried, or jittery. I truly believe they will learn to use these for help calming down and refocusing their energy.
