Focus During Distance Learning

My Students

Kindergarten is a grade full of creativity, exploration, social emotional learning, and so much academic growth! My students typically come into my classroom with no previous school experience and little to no academic background. But by the end of the year, they are reading books, solving math problems, and writing their own stories!

My students are the reason I love my job.

I thrive working in a low income, urban setting with students who are so eager to learn. Even though some of my students may come from settings where things are difficult at home, I strive to provide a safe and loving learning environment for them while they are in my care, even when we are in distance learning. In my "classroom", I educate my students knowing that they can all succeed and feel success each and every school day. If my students go home feeling happy, loved, listened to, and educated, then I have done my job for that day.

My Project

My school has been in distance learning since we started in September. That means that most of my kindergarteners have never even stepped foot into a classroom! Although distance learning has been hard for my students, they show up to our class meetings every day with a smile and try their best in their digital work!

I'm asking for this document camera so that my students are able to see up close the important skills that I am modeling during my instruction.

By having a document camera, students will be able to see me model things like writing and word building up close. They will also be more engaged by seeing a book up close while I am doing a read aloud.

The second part of my project is the request for dry erase sheet protectors. Since most of my students are from a low-socioeconomic background, they do not have access to the resources they need for continued practice on the basic skills such as letter and number writing. By providing each student with a sheet protector, I am able to print sheets for students to slide in and out of their protector for continued skill practice at home. This also keeps me safe while limiting my visits to households.
