This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are incredible! My students are in kindergarten, first, second, third, and fourth grade. They are curious, inquisitive, hardworking, and dedicated. All of my students have Individualized Educational Plans because they have been diagnosed with disabilities.
All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch at school.
They come from high poverty areas, and they all love coming to school. My students are brilliant individuals who learn differently than their peers. These students will be successful, and it's my job to create learning opportunities that ensure this.
My Project
Manipulatives, which are hands-on tools for teaching math and other subjects, are a great way to reach tactile and visual learners. In fact, a 2001 review of 14 educational studies found that all students could benefit from the use of manipulatives. Further, the studies highlighted that students with special needs, those whose first language is not English, and high-risk students made the highest gains when manipulatives were a significant part of the curriculum. Anything that makes learning fun while improving performance is a win for students and teachers alike. The use of manipulatives helps students hone their mathematical thinking skills. This project will allow students to have math manipulatives to use with their families at home! They will have the opportunities to have these 1 inch and 1 cm blocks and foam dice to enhance their learning at home with their families.
According to Stein and Bovalino (2001), “Manipulatives can be important tools in helping students to think and reason in more meaningful ways.
