My Students
As this year comes to an end, we are left with the unknown of what September will be like. My students are learning from home now on Google Classroom. Every day I post their assignments and try to bring the fun we had in the classroom into their remote learning. However, it, of course, is just not the same as seeing their smiling faces and hearing their voices every day.
Starting in September with a new class will be difficult after being out of school since March.
My co-teacher and I want to make sure our new students have the materials they need to be successful if we are still learning remotely at the start of the new school year.
My Project
My students need the book Flying Solo by Ralph Fletcher for the first unit of study in September. Usually, at this beginning of the school year, Flying Solo is our mentor text that we all read aloud together. It is a book that is highly engaging, yet allows for discussion of hard topics. This book always intrigues our readers and gets them excited for fifth grade. However, since we cannot be in school we do not have access to all of our resources. This unit is always so much fun for my students. It breaks my heart to think that we might be starting the new school year remotely. Your donation will help us get Flying Solo, so that we can mail or deliver them to our students and hold our mentor text read-alouds online.
Now more than ever, we need to provide our students with an engaging education, while at the same time, fostering their emotional development.
Online book clubs will, of course, be different than being together, but will bring some sort of togetherness to be able to have our shared read-aloud and make the rest of this year as normal as possible.
