My students hail from the great city of Philadelphia and attend a wonderful K-12 charter school determined to provide students with powerful learning experiences and diverse tools that will one day send them to college and beyond. My students are a diverse group of 25 toothless first graders who are beginning to truly develop as readers, writers, mathematicians, historians, philosophers, and scientists.
My student are some of the brightest, kindest, and most driven 6 to 7 years you could ever meet.
They all have unique personalities, interests, goals, and exceptionalities, but share one thing in common--a passion and genuine enthusiasm for learning! I feel so honored to be their teacher and am willing to give them nothing but the best.
Despite having incredible students in a admirable urban school, I cannot afford to provide my firsties with many of the learning materials they need to become the best power thinkers, independent adaptive problem solvers and meaningful contributors they can be. This why I need your help!
My students need a learning environment where they have a multitude of options to learn in ways they find favorable!
Whether this be on a couch, using a floor pillow on the carpet, on a exercise ball at a traditional table, or on a stool using a lap desk, I want my students to have these options!
I still plan to place my seating options in pods, which will allow students to continue to work collaboratively. Flexible seating will also allow more mobility in my classroom, as my current tables take up a lot of space, making it difficult to move around with ease. My first graders need more room to move and grove! 21st century classrooms have gone beyond rigid desks with chairs, and we're ready to be apart of the change!
