This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember when you were in school and learning how to read sitting on the rug? It was fun to get cozy with your classmates and teacher while reading and proofreading stories. Do you remember getting up from the rug to pick up a marker to write down an answer?
My students live in California and attend an inner city school.
They are living in homes that have parents, guardians, or grandparents raising them. They live in low income housing and struggle everyday to get sufficient nutrition and a good education. My students attend a school that is surrounded by violence. It is unsafe for them to play outside in their neighborhood. Parents are afraid to let their children play outside or walk down the street to a friend's house. My students attend a school that has dedicated teachers and staff who are willing to do what it takes to give them a great education. The teachers work hard to help students learn to read, write descriptive stories, and complete math problems.
My Project
Obtaining a spacious rug to do whole group or small group activities in close proximity gives them a chance to learn interactively with materials and each other. They would gain the skills of cooperation which will help them when they go out into the work world. The easel would give them the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and explain how they got their answers. This would give them the opportunity to learn how to communicate to others so that they can understand what they need to do to complete an assignment or project.
Donations to support this project will let these children know there are many people who care about them and want them to receive the best education possible.
Just the simple act of receiving new items to help them learn better excites them. They are so grateful to receive crayons, pencils, and erasers. Their eyes light up with excitement and they feel motivated to do their best.
