This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach an elective technology class in a rural part of the state. While the students are enthusiastic about learning, sometimes that learning can be limited by what our schools have to offer. For that reason, I challenge my students to further their own learning by exploring and discovering opportunities not afforded them in a traditional classroom setting.

Since knowledge is limited by experiences, I try to give my students opportunities they may not otherwise have.

Students have many options to explore in class like drones, videography, cooking, astronomy, robotics, engineering, programming, and any other topics they choose. I see it as my job to help them find the means to generate their own learning.

My Project

I am requesting additional receivers for our drone class. Since I started the DroneZone class a few years ago, interest in taking the class has continued to grow. I have a hard time saying no to students taking the class and as such, this semester we have more students than equipment. I have borrowed some transmitters from friends so students can fly but don't really like doing that.

I want to give each student as much time practicing their skills as possible.

I am trying to build a drone racing team and with the additional transmitters students will not have to watch while others fly. These tools will enable the students to practice their flying each day as well as allowing them all to fly together in both the simulator and with the real drones.
