My students need 20 subscriptions of "Time For Kids" and "Weekly Reader Current Events" Magazines. We also need large 11x17 paper, ink pads and a differentiated planner.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a 6th, 7th and 8th grade inclusion special educator in an urban, public school in Baltimore. I have taught for over ten years and am always looking for new reading material that interests my students. I teach both high performing students and students with special needs.
Many of my students are very easily bored and seem to have very little background knowledge in science, history and current events.
"Time for Kids" and the "Current Events Weekly Reader-Senior Edition" introduces them to a whole new world. Most of the reading material provided by the school system doesn't include the latest, up-to-date world news. Therefore, my students are unaware of what is happening in the world.
My Project
I am always trying to feed my students the latest, most exciting information available. These high interest magazines are wonderfully illustrated and have sparked my students' interests in reading, science, and world politics. They also provide additional related lessons and activities.
My students need 20 subscriptions of "Time For Kids" and "Weekly Reader Current Events" Magazines. These magazines will be shared with other teachers to use in their classes so that many, many students will have access to the latest news.
I would like to use larger 11"x17" paper and bright, colorful, ink pads to make charts and posters related to the topics I am teaching along with a new differentiated-instruction planner.
Please help me with this necessary project.
Our children are our future. They need to be aware of their world outside of Baltimore. By providing these magazines you can allow them to "fly around the world" and open their minds to new ideas! By reading the magazines and completing activities they will be much more aware of events happening all over the world!
