My students need 15 copies of the book "Flush" by Carl Hiaasen.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Tilley's classroom raised $188
This project is fully funded
I am the librarian of an inner city, K-6, Expeditionary Learning School. As part of Expeditionary Learning (EL), each grade chooses an in-depth study that addresses a theme or topic. This year, the 6th graders chose "Fresh Water" as their expedition. As the librarian, part of my job is to buy quality books for our students. This spring, our 6th graders are going to read a book by Carl Hiassen called "Flush". This hilarious book was chosen because it ties in with the 6th graders expedition on "How Pollution Threatens Our Fresh Water". Unfortunately, our library only has one copy and I will be able to get just a few copies from other libraries by Interlibrary loan.
When we are unable to get books through the library system, our teachers usually spend their own money to buy the books they need for their classroom. As much as I would love to buy classroom sets of books to house in my library, unfortunately my library budget is only $1,000 a year and I need to divide this money up between seven grades.
If my proposal for a classroom set of "Flush" is funded, not only would I have a complete set, but also I would be able to house these books in the library and use them for years to come. Not only would the sixth graders benefit, but also any other student in the school who would want to read this book. New library books are invaluable, especially if they can tie into a learning expedition.
Matching quality books with expeditionary work is a challenge in my job. When I can find a book that would work beautifully in the classroom, I get so excited. Our students love to read. By having a book they can read that they don't have to share would be priceless. Any help would be appreciated.
