My Students

My students attend a small community school. Most of my students are a second or even third-generation student at the school, as their parent(s) and grandparent(s) are alumni. My school is very close. With our lower number of students, it enables us to have a closer relationship with students. Our students work hard and they are excited and eager to learn.

Our small school is a staple in the community.

Our students are special to us all. Anything that can help them achieve their dreams, we want to give it to them.

My Project

The provided materials will help students to become better readers. To read aloud with expression requires an understanding of the text's meaning beyond simple decoding of individual words.

Fluency is the ability to read text with speed, accuracy and proper expression.

Teaching students to read fluently helps significantly with understanding what is being read.

With the Building Fluency Card Bank, students will practice reading in short bursts of effort. Doing this repeatedly will increase their rate of speed and accuracy. In my teaching practice, I’ve long relied on two strategies to support my students’ literacy growth: repeated reading and fluency trackers (grids on which students record their fluency scores over time).
