This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a math specialist, I work with K-5 students who are below grade level in math. They have huge hearts and spirits and give it their all. They may come to school under difficult circumstances, but remain resilient and look at the celebrations to be had beyond the tests.

Working in a dual language international school, many of my students navigate a cultural divide with amazing grace.

Most of my students are on free and reduced lunch while also striving towards being bi-literate global citizens. My students work together as a community trying to achieve and be the best they can be.

My Project

As a math specialist, I see first hand every day the struggles and triumphs children have as they try to make sense of the math in our world. The development of fact fluency is a crucial foundation for higher-level conceptual understandings in math. Too often, we move students too quickly from concrete manipulatives to memorization and recalling of facts.

The strategies supported in this ETA Hand2Mind Daily Math Fluency kit help build a bridge between concrete modeling and recall, so kids can fluenty work with numbers, freeing their brain up for higher-level problem solving in math.

While donations are being doubled for these kits, I hope you can support my students. I work with grades 3-5 and would like to try this kit initially with my third grade groups. Thank you in advanced!
