My Students
I have a classroom of 25 bright and eager second graders. Like most children in elementary school, my students look forward to coming to school and arrive to school each day ready to learn new skills. Their abilities are quite diverse but they are all consistently positive and productive. My students are definitely active learners who engage with each other as well as their teacher. I am lucky that they enjoy all the subject areas I teach and their great attitudes keep my energy up.
My Project
When students listen to and follow along with a quality literature book, they build literacy skills and confidence. As students become more confident their reading fluency and accuracy begins to increase.
I am requesting a read-along library geared for my combination class of second and third graders.
The set I am requesting includes 16 fabulous books and CDs. All of the books are kid favorites such as The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs by Jon Sciezka and The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary. With this set my students will have the option to read in the library on their own or with a read-along.
Having choices is key with today's student population. It also allows my struggling readers the opportunity to interact with books they normally could only hear during teacher read-alouds. Exposure to higher level material encourages students to reach that level on their own. Any donation to this project would be greatly appreciated!
