Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

Through this activity I would like to teach my students an appreciation for nature, flowers in particular. The students will develop an appreciation for plants and the necessity for them in the ecosystem, as we are studying plants in school as part of our Science curriculum. The students will have the hands-on opportunity to visit the Garfield Park Conservatory, as well as plant/monitor the growth of flowers in our school's barren planters . The students will journal the experience(s), while being able to witness the "fruits of their labor" as the flowers come to bloom in Spring!
