Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Spring is coming and flowers are blooming. I want to help my students have their own gardens. I want to develop their own green thumb. Indoor plants have been linked to improved concentration and memory as well as a reduction in stress. Research has also linked indoor plants with increased productivity and reduced mental fatigue, all of which can be beneficial in the classroom environment. Students will learn about each plant's individual needs and will also be responsible for ensuring plants have adequate water and sun needed to thrive.
Despite their circumstances, they are in school every day ready to take on the challenges.
“These students face income inequality that challenges them to find the opportunity for a positive mindset. They wake up every day with a “can-do attitude and make a plan,” even though they are faced with barriers of education, family composition, and society.
The goal of this project is to provide an inside garden where the student can help nurture the garden while growing academically. This project will be done after school. Each tool will be used to introduce gardening, then to foster different projects throughout the year and not just in the spring months.
