Our school library is the heart of our school which serves a diverse student population of students in Ninth through Twelfth grade. We are a Title I school with over 50% of our students coming from Economically Disadvantaged homes and over 40% of the student population being a minority. Our students face many challenges in their daily life at home and at school.
The library is a place where every student feels welcome.
They look forward to their visit and always come with a huge smile on their face. They love to cozy up to a good book and get lost in the words. The best part of my job is seeing the smiles on their faces or getting a great big hug from one of my students because they were able to check out a book to read at home, which often lacks any reading materials.
My Project
These books will continue to enhance our school library with news titles e print-rich classroom that I strive to create. Our library is a place that all students feel welcome and look forward to checking out new reading material. All of the books selected are part of the Florida Teens Reads book list. The FTR program is a student-choice reading program where students select which YA book will win the FTR award of the year. Most importantly, these books selected for the list each year are geared towards enticing teens to read.
With these books, our students will be able to select new, diverse, age-appropriate books to promote the love of reading.
They will also be able to choose books that interest them. These books were specifically choose by school librarians to appeal to teens to promote reading and critical thinking, . The books selected are newly released, engaging, diverse and relevant to today's teens. Please help our students participate in this reading program by supplying them with these newly published books.
