it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Floor play is one of the most important experiences in an early childhood classroom. It provides an opportunity to develop social skills with peers and for teachers to get down on the ground and teach at the students' level.
My Pre-K classroom consists of atypical learners who present as being on the autism spectrum.
They are a bright, wonderful group of students most of whom I envision moving on to a more inclusive classroom. I have been able to move students from previous classes to less restrictive environments and I'm certain many in this group will move to more inclusive settings given good instruction and resources to learn. The children enjoy many modes of learning and this group especially likes floor play. This is one of my favorite ways to teach as I am able to play on the floor with them and teach them pretend play, language skills and social skills such as sharing and interactive play.
My Project
The carpet cleaner will be used to maintain our carpet that we got previously from DonorsChoose. The carpet is used throughout the day and it is difficult to maintain - I frequently get on my hands and needs and spot clean it with soap and a sponge, but this is time consuming and not that effective. I am asking for many toy vehicles so that my students will have the resources that they will need to learn basic developmental skills at the early childhood level. As a high needs classroom, many of these students don't get these opportunities at home and the correct resources go a long way in improving skills in all developmental domains, including academic, social and speech and language skills.
When I first started teaching early learners over 15 years ago I initially had very little resources.
It was difficult to teach and if I had the right resources I can't help but think I could have done more for those children. I have seen the difference the right resources can make for children and DonorsChoose has made such an incredible impact on my classroom. With your help, these resources can help move my students on to a more inclusive setting for kindergarten.
