This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This is my first year here at CEKMS. I saw my orchestra twice before Hurricane Harvey hit the Sheldon area of Houston so I am still getting to know them.

They were so enthusiastic about starting orchestra this year.

The beginners were excited when I measured them for their instruments, the older kids couldn't wait to start making music again. This area was one of the worst hit sections of Houston. Many of the students have lost their homes to flooding.

Music is so important to these children. I would like to be able to safely send an instrument home with each student so that they can be successful.

My Project

CEKMS was badly damaged in Hurricane Harvey. We lost many of our school instruments, and all of our instrument cases. We will not return to our school before December, and possibly not until next August. Until then we are sharing a campus with another school.

Many of our students lost their homes to flooding as well.

If this project is funded, I will be able to safely send the school instruments that we were able to save, home with children so they can practice. Music makes a positive impact on the lives of children who have lost so much.
