This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As I was planning my science unit on energy, I came across an activity using wind-up rubber band airplanes. I believed it would demonstrate the concept of potential and kinetic energy. I thought to myself how wonderful it would be to provide each student with their own rubber band airplane. When I was perusing the internet, I happened upon rubber band butterflies that surprise people as they fly out boxes or books. Eureka! Something scientific and enchanting at the same time. Allowing students the opportunity to conduct hands-on experiments empowers them to be in charge of their learning.

The goal of this project is to ensure that each student receives their own personal wind up butterfly that they can also take home to share and engage with their family members.
