Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I think I was born to be a teacher. Each step of my life pointed me directly to the profession even when I resisted. I have been fortunate enough to have taught for over 20 yrs, fresh out of college . My career has had many successes and failures , but one thing has never changed; the sheer joy my students continue to bring me. Presently , I am the Reading Interventionist for grades 3-8 at a Fine Arts Charter School. I am truly lucky to work with these diverse and unique students every day. My scholars are proud of their accomplishments, but also struggle with their weaknesses. This school year, I want my students to be successful ,not only for the state mandated test, but for whatever direction life takes them.
My students are dynamic, creative , inquisitive, giving , and fun ;however they have some educational gaps and challenges that they are eager to begin overcoming.
It challenges me as a teacher to find hands-on and innovative lessons to bring concepts to life. My students are usually not successful in a typical classroom situation , so it is my quest to find other outlets in which to teach.
My Project
I am requesting the opportunity to attend the Flipped Tech Learning conference. This conference will allow me to gain new strategies to reach all my students ,no matter what their level may be. I am confident that the knowledge I will gain from this conference will help me to become an even more effective reading teacher. The knowledge I will attain from this experience will help me implement this pedagogical approach in which direct instruction is move to homework and what was known as homework is moved to the classroom.
Flipped Classrooms are innovative and will allow me to keep my students engaged and encourage them to go at their own pace.
I am so excited to begin this journey and learn as much as possible to integrate technology to aid me in reaching all of my students with this concept.
