Flipping a High School Math Classroom

My students need a Wacom Bamboo Tablet in order to make instructional vodcast videos.

My Students

Do you remember how difficult it was to learn mathematics. The teacher spent the whole period writing notes and it was difficult to copy notes and pay attention? I am flipping my classroom and making instructional videos for my students to learn at home and get time to practice in class.

My students live in rural-suburban CT and attend a regional school with four feeder school districts.

Additional students come from other towns to take part in our agriculture school. I teach students with varying ability levels from honors to general level. The students have a drive for learning and generally like math and want to be good at it.

My Project

I am requesting a Bamboo Tablet which is a tablet that hooks into any computer. It has the ability to be written on with a stylus and the writing is translated to the screen on which you are working. I am currently flipping my classroom which means that students will learn most of the general content at home at a basic level and the class time can be spent by practicing and problem solving. It is currently difficult writing math expressions with a mouse or touchpad. A bamboo tablet would be a solution to this problem.

This bamboo tablet would allow students to get more out of their math class.

The time in class would be spent practicing and solving higher order problems rather than teaching the basic content. Instructional videos are great for students because they can rewind and pause the video if it is going too fast.
