My Students
Did you enjoy visiting your library when you were little? Well we want our students to love their library. Our vision is to create a fabulous reading nook that will make students want to visit the library and encourage them to read.
Our library services Kindergarten through 5th grade students.
They love to read and it is not uncommon for us to have 300-500 book checkouts a day. Students may come in pairs any time throughout the day to check out books and work on the computers. We also teach classes in research skills and technology in the library. Every afternoon we have a kindergarten class for story time. We would like to create a reading nook area for our students. One of our wonderful parents donated a large stuffed dolphin, Flipper, to the library. Our vision is to decorate the library in an ocean theme and provide a new habitat for Flipper. Currently the library has wooden tables and chairs where students may read or study. We have 15 computer stations and a classroom area in the back of the library. While this furniture is practical, it is not very comfortable. Our future reading nook would provide a comfortable and casual seating area for students to study and read.
My Project
For Flipper's reading nook we need a rug and some new seating. Students will be able to read in a comfortable area. The entire library will be decorated in an ocean theme, and the reading nook will be the showcase area. We would like a bean bag, gaming chair, and a reading pillow for the reading nook. These items will match the underwater reading theme carpet. Students will love visiting the library and utilizing their new reading space. Flipper will feel right at home in his ocean theme library. We will unveil the new reading nook during our school book week. During book week we celebrate reading with games and activities every day. We have book trivia for students and guest readers on our morning news program. Students can win prizes for answering trivia questions and we give out bookmarks and pencils. This week encourages reading and the students look forward to this event each year. They will be so excited to see our new reading nook.
One of our main goals in the library is to promote a lifelong love of reading in students.
Having a wonderful welcoming library that students enjoy visiting will help us to achieve this goal. Our students will love coming to the library to read and check out books.
