Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Being a first-year teacher, I haven't met my students yet! However, I already love my students and I am so excited to see their passions and creativity take place in our classroom.
The students walking into our first-grade classroom and throughout the school represent a wide array of cultures and backgrounds.
The school is situated in the lovely city of Poteet and classified as a Title I school, meaning over 75% of our students qualify for free and reduced-priced lunch.
The majority of our students are low income and high risk. This adversity already makes them the strongest people I know. I am beyond excited to see the differences my students will make!
My Project
By giving students the power of choice, we provide them with the opportunity to learn in an environment that is comfortable and fun. In doing this, we promote an educational experience full of community, collaboration, and comfort.
Flexible seating gives students the opportunity to become more self-aware about how they learn best.
It will also teach students how to share our space and supplies throughout the classroom. Students will not be confined to a set chair or table and will be able to move around freely throughout the day which also promotes physical activity. Students will burn excess energy and stay more alert throughout the day.
The balance ball chairs and cushions allow students to lean and bounce safely while remaining productive and on-task. The stools will serve as a seating option for our small group table.
Above all, the goal is to empower students and give them the best learning environment. I am beyond excited for the flexible seating to flip our classroom!
